Position Title: Assistant House Manager

Reports To: House Manager

Status: part-time hourly; seasonal (September 25, 2018-May 19, 2019)

Indiana Repertory Theatre is seeking a few outstanding individuals for part-time seasonal Assistant House Managers. Candidates should have excellent communication skills and enjoy interacting with the public. This position requires the availability to work a schedule that varies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Arrive an hour and a half before curtain time.
• Responsible for delivering excellent customer service and meeting the needs of all patrons.
• Check restrooms for cleanliness before shows and after intermission.
• Make sure all doors are unlocked.
• Close doors before Acts, open them after.
• Check that house is clean.
• Scan tickets.
• Help patrons find their seats, restrooms, etc.
• Prepare programs and manage distribution.
• Maintain the image of the Grand Lobby and all public areas; communicate with housekeeping as necessary to ensure a clean environment.
• Work with house manager to resolve any patron issues.
• Assist managing volunteer ushers.
• Have a working knowledge of ticket-scanning equipment, hearing impaired devices, walkie-talkies, emergency exits, Assist House Manager with emergency procedures.

Candidates should be quick-witted, calm under pressure, flexible, have excellent communication skills and enjoy interacting with the public. This position requires the availability to work a schedule that varies.

The Indiana Repertory Theatre internship program offers an exciting opportunity for college and graduate students to gain professional experience by: working side-by-side with extraordinary artists, administrators, and technicians.

• being actively involved in the production of world-class theatre among a variety of departments.
• partnering with each student, university, and department to develop a course of study that best meets the needs of all parties.
• delivering experienced-based, hands-on learning opportunities that provide the necessary skills to become a viable candidate in a highly competitive field

The IRT Summer Youth Workshops experience is an immersion into the creative process of theatre. Young people with a passion for this art form learn about theatre-making from professional actors, administrators, directors, and technicians, as well as their peers. Interns work with children ages 8-18, assist professional teaching artists with daily assignments as well as leading theatre warm-up games, maintaining class spaces, and supporting administration. Applicants should be self-motivated, responsible, creative, and passionate about working with youth. 

INTERNSHIP DATES
Monday-Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM, June 17 – July 12, 2019 with training in the evenings on June 11-13

INTERNSHIP STIPEND
Interns will receive a weekly stipend of $150 for four weeks, from June 17 –July 12, 2019. Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the intern. 

INTERNSHIP PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with daily checking in and out of students
• Lead whole-group warm-up exercises
• Escort students to and from classes and restrooms
• Attend, observe, and participate in each class
• Assist instructors during the class period as necessary
• Monitor students during lunch period
• Prepare and clean the teaching spaces
• Attend daily intern meetings and weekly faculty meetings

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Interns must be enrolled as a student in a college or university either during the summer or in the fall after the internship. 
• Experience supervising children in a class, tutoring, or camp capacity preferred
• Experience in theatre or performance a plus, but not required

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Energetic and enthusiastic attitude
• Ability to supervise and support young people in a creative learning environment
• Quick thinking, problem solving
• Strong sense of personal responsibility
• Attention to detail and ability to faithfully implement procedures
• Desire to engage with performing arts as a teacher and student

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to supervise young people, including tending to minor scrapes and bruises
• Must be able to escort students throughout the Theatre to multiple teaching spaces
• Interns are expected to participate in all performing exercises when possible
• Some lifting and moving of rehearsal furniture and classroom equipment may be required
• Interns must have reliable transportation to and from the theatre
