As part of its commitment to the community, IRT provides continuing education opportunities for youth and adults. In Classes at IRT, professional artists and highly-trained staff provide a safe, supportive, and fun atmosphere that immerses students into the process of theatre. About Classes at the IRT
- All classes are held at Indiana Repertory Theatre. (140 W Washington Street)
- Registration for classes closes 48 hours before the first session.
- All registration fees must be paid prior to the start of the first class in a session.
- $25 of your registration fee is a non-refundable deposit. Cancellations and refunds (minus deposit) may be requested up to 24 hours before the start of the first class in a session.
- No refunds will be issued should a student choose not to complete a session after the start of classes.
- IRT reserves the right to cancel any class. A complete refund will be made in the event of a cancellation.
- IRT reserves the right to make changes in instructors, schedule, check-in or dismissal as deemed necessary by the IRT production schedule. Students and guardians will be notified of any changes.
- IRT season ticket holders receive a 10% discount on tuition to any IRT Class! Register by phone at the number below to take advantage of this offer.

WINTER CLASSES
Join IRT for Winter Classes! Whether you're looking to give performing a first shot, or brush up on your skills, you'll find a welcoming group ready to learn and grow together. Our instructors are prepared to meet the needs of each new group of students. Using a variety of methods, including theatre games, monologue work, and scene study, our classes will help you improve your practice no matter your experience level. Winter classes will be held on Mondays beginning January 21st. Information about age ranges, content, and costs is below. Online registration will open for all classes by December 10th.
yOUTH ACTING
ELEPHANT & PIGGIE - CREATE A PLAY!

Create your very own play for the stage with inspiration from Mo Willem’s Elephant & Piggie series! In this class, students will read selected stories featured in IRT’s upcoming production of Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are In a Play!” to learn about character, setting, and story. Families are invited to attend a new student-created play at the end of each class! Registration includes one complimentary youth ticket to IRT's 2019 production of Elephant & Piggie's "We Are in a Play!" Led by teaching artist Josiah McCruiston.
SCENE STUDY - THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK
Ages 10-13 | Mondays 5:15-6:45PM | January 21 - February 11 | $120 | Registration for this class has closed.
In this class for young actors, students will learn physical and vocal techniques professionals use to create bold, memorable characters on stage. Class activities will focus on scene work from The Diary of Anne Frank. By using clues from the script and students’ own experience, these exercises will build confidence in young performers no matter what their next role is! This class is appropriate for both beginning and experienced young actors. Registration includes one complimentary youth ticket to IRT's 2019 production of The Diary of Anne Frank. Led by teaching artist Mehry Eslaminia.
SHAKESPEARE FOR TEENS
Ages 13-18 | Mondays 5:15-6:45PM | January 21 - February 11 | $120 | Registration for this class has closed.
In this class for teen actors, students will bring the Bard to life! Focusing on short scenes and monologues from some of Shakespeare's most famous works, students will dissect and process Shakespeare's words to make close connections to universal themes. Open to students who already love Elizabethan theatre, or those who are reading Shakespeare for the first time, young actors will set their own goals and work to grow and meet them. The class culminates with a showcase at the final class. Led by teaching artist Milicent Wright.
ADULT ACTING
INTRO TO STAGE COMBAT
Ages 18+ | Mondays 7:00-9:00PM | January 21 - February 11 | $160 | Registration for this class has closed.
Get physical! Learn the basics of how an actor uses their body to tell a story through combat. Students will learn introductory elements of stage combat, focusing especially on body awareness and safety. Come prepared to move! Led by teaching artist Rob Johansen.
PREPARING YOUR NEXT AUDITION
Ages 18+ | Mondays 7:00-9:00PM | January 21 - February 11 | $160 | Registration for this class has closed.
A compelling audition includes dynamic monologues of multiple styles. In this class, actors will explore strategies for choosing and preparing the right piece for your next audition. Perfect for new actors working to build experience and those actors continuing to fine tune new material. The perfect way to prepare for IRT General Auditions in the spring! Led by teaching artist Ashley Dillard and IRT Associate Artistic Director Ben Hanna.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
A limited amount of need-based scholarship is available for the IRT Classes program. To apply, please download, complete and submit the application at this link. Details for submission are contained in the application. Scholarship applications must be recieved at least 7 days prior to the start of a session to be eligible to recieve financial aid.
